I was playing futsal for 5 years before coming to Canada. Where I used to be, futsal is an everyday sport, like basketball is in the States. Here in Ottawa, futsal is certainly not as common as it could be. The demand for outdoor field soccer and 7-aside indoor (turf) soccer is considerably big, with season league running through the year. In the beautiful summer heat, people tend to play outdoor sports and stick the indoor games in winter.
There is an official futsal league here called the OCFL (Ottawa Carleton Futsal League). The Premier League kicks off in November and the winners will be representing Ottawa in the Ontario Futsal Cup in March 2012.
Participating teams will be: Aquitas FC, Red Army FC, St Mary's FC and Vasco d'Ottawa.
