I've been living in Ottawa for 13 months now. I must admit, Canadians really take sports seriously. I've heard much about the "soccer moms" and "Hockey dads" that indicate how serious parents take sports for children. Sports in Canada is considered a fundamental part of a child's growth, popularity, self-esteem and learning. In an individualistic society where standing out is important to a typical person's self-esteem, sports players a very important role.
